No Wilting Tulips Here

Today I saw a sequel that I wholeheartedly expected to blow chunks.  And it didn't.

How's the for a surprise?

I'm a pretty big fan of The Whole Nine Yards, the initial Matthew Perry/Bruce Willis organized crime farce.  I remember going to see that film on a whim with Mark of the famous, MarkAnime.com and be shocked as the two of us laughed our asses off the entire time.

I'm not a fan of friends, but have always loved Matthew Perry's humor and try to see as much as I can of Bruce Willis's work.  Ten Yards does not disappoint.  While not as funny as Nine Yards (talk about excellent sequel naming!) Ten Yards made me laugh pretty consistently throughout.  Jimmy the Tulip (Willis) is back as the bizarre hit man turned rat in hiding in Mexico and Perry owns a successful Dentistry business, now married to Willis' ex-wife.  The plot is a twistoflex that I don't recommend wasting the brain power to figure out.  Fact is, there are holes in it you could fly a plane through... with room to maneuver.  Don't worry... it doesn't really hurt the film.

Matthew Perry's Oz character is really the main focus this time around, Willis not stealing the spotlight as he did in the first film.  But it is Kevin Pollack (The Usual Suspects) who steals the movie, playing his character from the first movie's father, in heavy makeup with an accent and line delivery that never fails to crack up the audience.  Almost every time the audience erupted in laughter it was from one of his lines or one of the many smacks, punches and kicks he delivers to his underlings.  This is Kevin Pollack's film, make no mistake about it, and he is phenomenal.

A lot of fun from start to finish, go check out Ten Yards before it's out of theaters.  Thanks to its distributors delaying it for a year and half, the film won't do that well.  This is truly unfortunate because, it's a damn enjoyable sequel.
