Star Wars 5 Which is Actually 2 But Not Really
by

HUGE
The
following is a continuation of the Star Wars: A New Hope review:
The Empire Strikes Back was a brilliant strategy of a sequel.
The story was George's, but it should be noted
that the story was not written originally to go along
with Star Wars. George
had ideas for a possible immediate prequel, detailing
the life of young Obi Wan.
He then considered developing five more movies
telling the story of Luke Skywalker.
The result was a combination of his plans,
plans that began with The
Empire Strikes Back, herein referred to as Empire.
George left Star Wars open-ended, primed for a
sequel. The
course he took is popularly considered the best of all
the Star Wars movies so
far. Empire
is more action-driven, with better special effects, a
more emotionally involved storyline, more overall plot
direction, and, of course, it has Yoda.
The coolest and shortest bad mutha---- in
cinema. And
if you haven't seen this film, then FOR SHAME!!!
It is with regret that I understand that there
are those in this world who have not seen Empire, and
therefore I will not quote the most amazing line
delivered in all of cinema history.
I would almost sell my soul to be able to watch
that scene again for the first time and hear the line
that begins with Luke
and doesn't end with Use
the Force.
And George left Empire open ended as well, and this time with a
strategy. He
would have another movie, at least.
And with the success and power of Empire, the
world sat in expectation of the answers to so many
unanswered questions.
Note:
For
those of you with the widescreen version of the film:
When Luke is in the cave on Dagobah, and he
first sees the figure of Darth Vader, behind him is
the frame of a door.
As the Darth figure walks through the door, you
will notice that the edges are cut straight, not
jagged as a natural cave would be. This (underground ship?) has yet to be explained by George in
the Star Wars universe.
Empire certainly is a beautiful, amazing piece
of artistic storytelling.
Yet I do not count this as it's own entity in
my rating of the best things I've ever seen.
Why? Because
of Return of the Jedi.
