Stay
By Michael Flanagan
This movie is weird. But in that good
way. It’s a little over an hour and a half long David
Lynch-fest of weird mystery-solving, plot twists, and other
gadgets. The mystery is really the fun part, so I won’t give
anything away there.
The movie is beautifully directed by
Monster Inc and Finding Nemo…no, wait,
Monster’s Ball and
Finding Neverland’s Marc Forster. He uses great angles,
edits, cuts, colors, and all those good directory things that
make the movie stand out in the world of
Gattaca and Code 46. Except not as high-tech or futuristic.
Ewan McGregor continues is post-Star Wars
life in reminding people that no only was he the best part of
those movies, but he’s also a damn fine actor. And young Ryan
Gosling, who you may remember from such films as Murder by
Numbers and The Notebook…okay, don’t remember him from those,
because he’s pretty damn good.
It’s worth seeing, though at times a little
long, more in idea than execution. Monsters Ball is better, as
is Finding Neverland. But at least this one doesn’t mirror a
cartoon. |
