Super

Kate Hudson the daughter of two fine actors, Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn; she has taken the actor gene to the next level, Ms. Hudson is one hell of an actor.  Her performances in movies like Almost Famous and Raising Helen was terrific, but her portrayal of Caroline Ellis is another level again.  Believable and exciting Kate Hudson had me at the edge of my chair; you see, I really cared about Caroline.

Gena Rolands is also very believable in her multi faceted roll as Violet Devereaux, and no wonder.  Ms. Ralands has been one of Hollywood's best for many years and in many films.  She played Gloria Swansen in the 1980 film Gloria, for which she was nominated for an Oscar, her other Oscar nomination performance was opposite Peter Falk in Woman Under the Influence (1974), she has been nominated and has won 31 times for awards in the United States and Internationally.  Her Violet Devereaux is as worthy a performance as any of her best.  She'll creep you out and scare you out of your shoes.

John Hurt has a demanding roll as a stroke victim who is paralyzed and unable to speak.

Peter Sarsgaard, who has played such varied rolls as a grave robbing young man in Zach Braff's Garden State, to Kinsey's assistant/lover to Troy in Jarhead.  He brings  a lot to this film as well.

I especially enjoyed the Bonus Features on the DVD.  The making of is fun, as is the Blues in the Bayou, Creating the sounds, the music and the spirit of New Orleans.  The commentary by director Iain Softley is very entertaining and informative.

The Skeleton Key is a Super evening, the DVD is a few Super evenings.
