| The
worlds known as Lacroa and Ark have been conquered by The Dark
Axis. Now the peaceful world of Neotopia is
threatened. Enter The Super Dimensional (SD) Guard who
defend Neotopia from the Dark Axis invasion. Their champion
is Captain, a robot Gundam soldier. Captain Gundam bands
together with the samurai Gundam Bakunetsumaru of Ark; Zero,
the winged knight Gundam of Lacroa; and Shute, their human boy
sidekick to lead the SD Gundam Force against the Dark Axis in
order to save Neotopia and resurrect the worlds of Lacroa and
Ark. |
| This
show is basically targeted at a younger audience, so hardcore
Gundam fans probably won't like it. looking at it as its
own show though, I must say that I was pleasantly
surprised. SD Gundam is certainly not the best
anime I've ever seen, but its smooth computer generated art
and its simple tales of courage and honor are a lot more
appealing than a lot of the more mainstream favorites out
there. This is not to say it does not suffer from some
faults. For instance, the corny characters and dialogue
are enough to turn some viewers off, but when coupled with the
triumphant soundtrack which resembles a melodious military
charge and the vivid, robust fighting moves, somehow it all
comes together in a way that works. SD Gundam is
a well put together show and you can't help but appreciate
that. |

| Overall,
I think it is a good show, but it is obviously intended for a
young audience as more of a marketing vehicle rather than a
poignant chapter in the long running and much varied Gundam
saga. It's Gundam for kids. Despite that fact
though, I do suspect it has a faithful audience of teens and
young adults. I do recommend this series, but I am never
surprised when someone doesn't like it. |
