The
Libertine with too Many Liberties
By Michael Flanagan
Johnny Depp is a great actor,
and he’s great in this movie. The movie, however,
is far from great. It starts off promising enough,
with a direction seemingly going tward Shakespeare
in Love for Restoration Poets. And then it turns
right. Hard, and not in that good way. And we
spend the next hour and a half in a dismal,
uncomfortable, boring story that looks like someone
time-traveled and filmed everything with a camera
from the 70s. Even with Samantha Morton and too
little of John Malkovich, don’t bother with this
one. See Shakespeare in Love. Or
Finding Neverland. Or Back to the Future. 1
and 3. |
