| Here's
a new superpower for you: the ability to see the
"threads" that bind living things together.
It's not much of a power until you consider that even the most
powerful foe can be destroyed by severing its
"threads." Shiki is a young man with such a
power. They call it "Death Perception."
Cute, eh? Anyway, Shiki has been able to keep this
power, which he considers to be a curse, under wraps until a
beautiful young vampire princess named Arcueid sashays into
his life. Don't you hate it when that happens? Now
Shiki gets wrapped up in a fight with dark powers that are way
out of his league. The question is, is he in over his
head, or just chasing his destiny? |

The series is slow to
start and is comprised mostly of dialogue, not action.
When the showdowns do occur though, they are gruesome and
savage. The action sequences are oddly portrayed (you
never really see a blade strike flesh clearly), but the
aftermath of an attack is usually quite gory. Still,
with the action sequences so spread out, by the time you see
one you are ready for some gore. This is definitely too
cerebral a show for action lovers. So far I sound like
I'm panning it, right? I would be if not for one
thing. It's engrossing as hell! |
| I
don't know what it is about this show but I was glued to it
like bird poop on a windshield. The characters are
intriguing (nobody's "normal"), the subject matter
is a fresh take on an old theme, there's a budding romance,
and there's so much going on plot-wise that you cannot help
but be engrossed by at least one element of Shiki's life. I
highly recommend this anime to a seasoned anime fan with
patience and maturity. It's not for everyone, but it
might be for you. Check
it out! |
