Jaws the Revenge – The Shark Ate
the Ending?
by Michael Flanagan
Wimpy
I was watching my new copy of Jaws
the Revenge the other day. It’s a good copy, very
clear, doesn’t skip. The cover has the great tagline “This
time it’s personal” on it. And the movie, thankfully, is
still about a killer shark that gets pissed because Roy
Scheider killed its family and so it goes after Roy
Scheider’s family, because Roy Schedier’s character is
dead…because Roy Scheider wouldn’t touch this movie with a
10-ft fishing pole.
|
And then I got to the end…and it’s a different ending! The way
I grew up watching it, Mrs. Scheider stabs the shark with the
boat…no, I’m serious…and the shark bleeds a lot and sinks into
the depths, dead, probably calling its cousin in preparation for
Jaws 5…it will happen! But in this one, on this DVD, when she
stabs the shark, he explodes! For no reason! And the explosion
effect is basically a lot of little Lego sharks getting hit with
firecrackers! And then the boat sinks, and Mario Van Peebles
comes back to life! The freaking shark eats him, we see him in
the mouth, and he comes bubbling up to the surface okay, a
little cut up, but mostly fine.
|

"I can't
believe 'This time it's personal' is actually the slogan!" |
|
I don’t know what happened, but I want my
original ending back. The movie really does suck, but at
the very least it could have the ending I saw as a kid, back
when I thought the movie was good. Did I ever really think
it was good? Hey, it’s about a vengeful shark. Of course! |
