I, Robot,
“Suggested by Isaac Asimov's book”
by Joe De Matteo
Solid
I, Robot, “Suggested by
Isaac Asimov's book” in a line should be a warning to any
Asimov fan. If you love the book and are not the kind of
person who can separate a Hollywood movie from a successful
book that you love, you’ll need an attitude adjustment
before you go see this movie.
If you feel all warm and
fuzzy when you hear the words “Will Smith,” then your
attitude is just fine for I, Robot.
I’ve talked to many fans of
the TV show Wild West, who also like Will
Smith, but were extremely disappointed by the movie. That,
I believe, was the fault of the movie in general; it was
missing something. Maybe it was editing, maybe it was
dialogue, maybe someone important just wasn’t into it. I can
tell you solidly, that that is not a problem with I,
Robot. |

I, Robot
is a good Will
Smith movie, it’s not his best, not anywhere near
Enemy of
the State or
Men in Black, but it’s a good one. The action, the
antics, even the excitement level are run-of-the-mill. The CGI
is real good, and if you’re the type of person who isn’t
critical of every bump in the road, you’ll like it.
Hey, there are a lot of caveats
here for a Solid review; I know. But they are all
necessary. Purists will not like this movie. Man, I hear
enough of the criticisms of the movies made from comics! Why
this? That’s not what happened! Who’s the jerk that decided to
make one character out of those two important people?
It goes on and on,
believe it. |

I, Robot is exactly what it looks like.
If you never heard of Asimov or his great tale, just judge
the movie by the trailers; what you see is what you get.
End of story. |
