Here's a great team: Barry Sonnenfeld, John
Travolta, Gene Hackman, Rene Russo, Danny DeVito,
and Dennis Farina. Yes, and Elmore Leanord. |
| Sonnenfeld has a knack
with the light but complex storyline, just the
filmmaker for an Elmore Leonard novel. It's
not only that he 'gets' Elmore Leonard, but his
choices the music for his films makes the soundtrack
part of the storytelling. I believe
Be Cool would have been a far better film had
Sonnenfeld directed it, This is what
Sonnenfeld does best. Look at Big Trouble,
it's the Elmore Leonard book that Leonard didn't
pen, and a far better film than Be Cool.
Get Shorty has everything, it's absurd
enough to be acceptable, it keeps you moving
forward, and it has a fairytale ending.
The special edition DVD set is full of fun
viewing. It got me through one of those stay
at home weekends. In a two day marathon I
watched the film, saw the special features, then
watched the film again. Monday morning I was
feeling physically better, and I had that great
attitude that a fun weekend gives you. |
