| In
the distant future, the Earth creates orbiting space
colonies. These space colonies are like countries
unto themselves complete with atmospheres, plant life,
even clouds. As warring nations on Earth tear each
other apart, 15% of the Earth's population moves to the
colonies to pursue peaceful lives. The problem of
war is permanently solved when a totalitarian state is
formed on Earth. Overseen by "The Romefeller
Foundation," the army known as "OZ"
employs giant humanoid robots called mobile suits to
eliminate any signs of resistance to this totalitarian
state on Earth. It is not long before this force
looks to the space colonies as it's next conquest. |
| The
governments of the colonies ban together to form the
"Earth Sphere Alliance" and attempt peaceful
resolution with Earth. Their call for peace is met
with a military answer. The colonies are soon
overrun by OZ mobile suits. The Earth Sphere Alliance
responds by sending five state of the art mobile suits
made with a super tough metal called Gundaniam (the
reason they're called "Gundams") piloted by
five specially trained teenaged boys to Earth.
Their mission is to use their fantastic robot mobile
suits to dismantle OZ and the Romefeller Foundation by any means necessary. This is
where the series begins. Still with me?
How's that for a background story! It only gets
more involved from here. |

| As
you can see the plot is very involved and only gets more
involved from there on in. It doesn't really
matter if you get it or not (I'm still not sure I have
it straight) because the series is so good you don't
really need to know everything about it to enjoy it. |
| This
show's success lies with its characters. The
Gundam pilots are a unique and varied group that you
can't help but find intriguing. Their distinctly
different robots each feature a certain uniqueness about
them as well. It just one of those series that is
so easy to get involved in. The story unfolds with
a basic theme that get more and more complicated as
certain problems arise and unexpected allies and foes
make their appearance. That's the best part about
this show: its daring. It does some really
unexpected things that puts you on the edge of your
seat. |
| Gundam
Wing is nearly perfect. The only thing I
might've liked was a clearer explanation of the
plot. It took me a while to figure out what was
going on...and I'm not that slow. As I said
before, your confusion will not stand in the way of
enjoying the show, but it does take away from the show
overall. Nevertheless, I highly recommend Gundam
Wing and consider it one of the best anime series
I've ever seen. |
