"Once upon a time, before e-mails
and cell phones, and reality television shows..."
That line starts the wonderful story of how Wil met
and fell in love with the woman who mothered his
beautiful young daughter, his soon to be ex-wife.
Ryan Reynolds is the perfect Wil Hayes, he's got
a classic ease to him, classic for Romantic
Comedians of any value. He's wonderful, never
over acting, never off, always true to his
character. Ryan nailed the part.
We have
been blessed in recent years with a few really great
children actors, but The acting of Abigail Breslin
as Maya Hayes, Wil's 10-year old daughter, is also
perfect. She takes you along on this ride
through the tough-on-kids divorce of their parents,
while Maya is taking her father on a ride of
discovery.
The three women in Wil's life are very different
from each other. Emily (Elizabeth Banks) looks
to be the perfect and beautiful girl next door, the
kind of girl you marry and raise a family with -
which is Wil's plan. But Wil feels compelled to
temporarily leave his sweetheart for a chance to
work on the 1992 Bill Clinton presidential campaign
in New York City. Summer Hartley (Rachel Weisz)
is a serious and dark young woman; who's frank and
friendly manner is quite intoxicating. April
Hoffman (Isla Fisher), is the only paid person at
the campaign headquarters in mid-town Manhattan, she
is bubbly, fun and unpredictable, she is the 1990s
version of a hippy.
It's complicate: the whole story is
complicated, the people are complicated. And
the telling of the story is great fun. It's a
wonderful watch and...well, what can I say, I want
to see it again.
Kevin Kline, fantastic Kevin
Kline he owns the his scenes.
The DVD has some great stuff in it. Adam
Brooks has done a wonderful job putting his story on
the screen.
