Dark Matter has been released at a number of film festivals. Here are the US releases:

• USA: January 23, 2007 @ Sundance Film Festival: Won the Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize Shi-Zheng Chen (director), Billy Shebar (writer).

• Germany: February 9, 2007 @ European Film Market

• Hong Kong: March 30, 2007 @ Hong Kong International Film Festival

• USA: March 31, 2007 @ AFI Dallas Film Festival

• USA: April 15, 2007 @ Sarasota Film Festival

• France: May 20, 2007 @ Cannes Film Market

• USA: July 26, 2007 @ Asian-American International Film Festival

• USA: October 11, 2007 @ Woodstock Film Festival

Wide release had been delayed back on April 27, 2007, reportedly because of similarities in the the script to the Virginia Tech massacre, however, more than 6 months later, it is still on the shelf; except, of course, for the three film festivals in May, July and October of this year.
 

 Dark mater is the story of a promising Chinese graduate student in physics, Liu Xing (Liu Ye), studying at a prominent American University.  Lin Xing is ambitious, he has great dreams and goals, and the intelligence to make them reality.  Dark Matter is based on a true story, which took place in the not so distant 1990s. 

Lin Xing's superiority is obvious, and it gains him the support of his charming Professor, Jacob Reiser (Aidan Quinn), as well as, Joanna Silver (Meryl Streep), a wealthy socialite and university patron,  Things are going great, he is able to send money and a piece of his dreams home to his family in China; his future looks more rosy with each passing day.

However, Xing's research in his chosen the origins of the universe, leads him into dangerous ground, that of dark matter, one of the great unchartered areas of physics.  He fixates on it.  But Professor Reiser wants wants Xing to prove his-own theory, and drop his research into dark matter.

All the elements that have gotten Xing to this point in his life, will not allow him to drop his research, and his problems, and the drama, start when he publishes his brilliant paper on DARK MATTER.
 

Before and After: updates and previews

Val Kilmer's name has been dropped from the cast of Dark Matter.  Many others, however, have been added to the cast. 

Shooting is scheduled to start in May.  The story is based on an actual even: a Chinese exchange student turns to violence because school politics destroy his chances for a Nobel Prize.  Val Kilmer, who has just joined the cast, is not playing the Chinese student.
