Classic Woo
by Joe De Matteo
Super
Broken Arrow has everything you expect to see in a John Woo
movie. But like all of his movies, it's a stand alone, balls
to the wall, action adventure. Woo's formula has nothing to
do with repetition. It's like the fact that a murder mystery
has to have a murder. There are certain things you expect to
see in a John Woo movie, and they are mostly all included in each
movie, but each movie is a different story, in a different
setting, with different characters. |

In this flick Travolta plays a "cooool" bad guy
to Slater's cool bulldog of a good guy. On it's first
viewing John Travolta's exagerated movements help to define his
character. On subsequent viewings, they become witnesses
to what he really is, a man who has sold his soul.
Christian Slater is an excellent 'grab hold and never let go'
character. His character is as likeable as Clarence in
True Romance, but there is nothing niave or stupid about
him.
Samantha Mathis is extremely cute and excellent in the part of
the 'park ranger,' and Delroy
Lindo, whom I always enjoy, plays a solid roll.
I'll finish my review by asking you to take another look at the
stills above, and to say that this is one for you DVD
collection. |

Unfortunately, John Woo does not have a commentary or a
"making of" on this DVD, but the movie is so
rewatchable that you should own the DVD regardless of that fact.
It's action packed and the nuclear explosion is worth twice the
price of the DVD in itself. |
