Beyond Borders: An Open Letter to Anjelina Jojie
by Michael Flanagan
Pathetic
Dear Ms. Jolie:
I recently watched your movie,
Beyond Borders. I noticed that the plot of the movie—a
woman’s interest in the plight of the third world leads to
action and adoption in and out of war—to resemble your own
political ideas. Perhaps this is why you decided to do this
movie. Or, maybe you paid someone to have this movie done.
Either way, it is boring, poorly acted (on all parts), it
has no cohesive plot, and a predictable, unexciting ending
that makes little sense. Please keep your political beliefs
and ideas out of the cinema. You have been blessed with the
luck of being a famous movie star with sometime decent
acting ability. You have fun with this spotlight, in the
public eye and with goofball movies like Tomb Raider.
That’s all fine and good. But if you’re going to make and
release a movie that barely hides the after school special
message/feed the children/we are the world nonsense, at
least have the decency of keeping it in your own private
collection and do not allow it to spoil the same Blockbuster
shelves that hold Rat Attack and Shark Showdown,
movies I’m sure are high-quality by comparison. Make some
good movies without a message, or make a good message movie
that won’t slap me in the face. That, or stop making
movies. Thank you.
