There's not much I can say about the quality of Before
Sunrise that the movie won't say better. The movie
deals with human relationships, specifically male-female
relationships. The movie is not a romance, but I have
never seen a greater, truer example of the romance of
connection than in this movie.
Before Sunrise has a way of reaching into you, with its
conversational dialogue and painfully real situations. If
you have lived you can't help but identify with these 23-year
olds as they spend one important night together, not in
romantic-comedy style, but again, in truth.
Director/Screenwriter Richard Linklater and Screenwriter Kim
Krizan have created something amazing in this film. Ethan
Hawke and Julie Delpy carry it off wonderfully. What
they've given us is a beautiful look into the human condition.
The elements that they miss--because how much could 23-year
explore in one night--they more than make up for in the equally
masterful sequel, Before Sunset.
